In a powerful display of artistry and athleticism, Bulgaria’s Tapia Dance House (Sofia) swept the competition at the International Dance Competition “Stage” in Skopje, North Macedonia, and secured qualification for the upcoming World Championship.
Over the weekend, the event brought together elite performers across multiple age groups and disciplines—from acro-dance to open category routines—at the National Opera & Ballet in Skopje. Tapia’s breakout moment came with their signature routine titled “The Beginning and the End”, which earned the Special Award for Best Group Dance and the Special Award for Best Choreography. Their acro-dance group also captured 1st place with a score of 148/150, a near-perfect total that underscores their exceptional level of performance.
But Tapia’s success didn’t stop with that one choreographic triumph. Individual dancers from the studio dominated across categories:
-
Kalia Andonova – 1st place, Acro Dance Children
-
Mari-Nikol Nikolova – 1st place, Acro Dance Juniors and 1st place, Open Juniors
-
Lora Stoimenova – 1st place, Acro Dance Seniors and 1st place, Open Seniors
-
Boyan Miladinov – 1st place, Acro Dance Male
-
Teodora Slaveva – 1st place, Open Children
-
The group routine “Africa” – 1st place, Acro Dance Group Children
-
1st place, Musical Formation
Additionally, Tapia’s dancers secured multiple podium placements beyond gold:
-
2nd place, Acro Dance Children – Katerina Grigorova
-
2nd place, Acro Dance Seniors – Kristiana Raeva
-
3rd place, Acro Dance Children – Lina Alurkova
-
3rd place, Open Children – Plamena Georgieva
-
4th place, Acro Dance Children – Asiyana Taneva
-
5th place, Acro Dance Children – Dariya Vasileva
This impressive spread of results reflects not just a single performance, but an entire institutional commitment at Tapia Dance House—from juniors to seniors, from group pieces to open discipline formats. Their training regimen combines strong acro-foundation, expressive contemporary movement, theatrical storytelling and competitive readiness. The studio fosters a community where older dancers mentor younger ones, leading to a pipeline of consistently high-level output.
Beyond individual and group success, the most notable outcome of the weekend is Tapia’s qualification for the World Championship. This means they will now step onto a global stage, representing Bulgaria, delivering their artistry alongside the world’s best. For a studio based in Sofia, this achievement delivers both national recognition and an international platform.
Tapia Dance House’s performance in Skopje is a compelling example of what happens when discipline meets creativity, community meets performance, and young artists are given the space to grow. For theatre and performance-arts enthusiasts watching the competitive dance scene, the ascent of Tapia signals that the boundaries between athletic competition and expressive art continue to blur—and that young European studios are making their voices heard.
